Sony Ericsson X1 test

First impression of the Sony Ericsson X1 phone

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 mobile phone is quite long and narrow, although also somewhat thick, mainly caused by the sideways sliding QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen is of reasonable size, however, somewhat on the narrow side, and below the screen some additional buttons are found to answer or end a call, as well as the panel button, arrow buttons and a confirmation button. The front of the Sony Ericsson X1 phone is made of metal, just like the back cover, which gives the phone a solid appearance. Standard included with the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 are a battery charger, a data cable, a headset, two stylus pens, several manuals per functionality and a software CD.

The clear touchscreen with high resolution (800x480) ensures easy operation. The screen responds fast and you don’t have to press hard on it in order to make it work. The colors are beautiful and watching a video is not a problem at all. Personally, I find the monitor rather narrow, certainly when using it vertically, since in that case the resolution changes from 640x480 to 800x480. It’s also advisable to use the included stylus pens sitting on the left top side, since the icons are a tad too small to operate with your finger. Although in some cases it is possible. There is a small upright edge around the monitor which makes it difficult to click on an icon in the corners using your fingers. Other than that, no comments.

F or several years now, the Windows Mobile operating system has been used on many smartphones. Windows Mobile indeed ensures a fine compatibility and synchronization with the computer, which makes it popular for corporate use, too. In general, this software is a tad more enhanced, which is noticeable on, for example, the agenda function, Windows Media Player and the Internet Explorer. Installing the external software is easy and extensively available on line. Recent improvements carried out in Windows Mobile 6.1 enhance the user’s ease. Mainly by placing short cuts with access to certain functions on the screen, which facilitates opening them, making it easier for the user, since it means scrolling through the menu endlessly is no longer necessary. The changes have been accomplished also by listening to the experiences of the user.
