Apple record iPhone and iPad sales, largest revenues

Apple has reported a record number of iPhones and iPad sales in the second quarter of 2011, powering revenues of $28.6 billion, also a record.
Brian White, an analyst with Ticonderoga Securities, simply used the word "wow" in the title of a note to his clients.
"Apple deliver[ed] nothing short of a blowout performance," White said in that note on Tuesday.

Apple's revenues were the fourth consecutive quarter over the $20 billion mark, and represented an 82% increase over the same period last year.
The $28.6 billion in revenue was significantly higher than Wall Street's average projection of $25 billion, and beat the company's conservative estimate three months ago of just $23 billion by 24%.
Profits were $7.31 billion, yet another record for a quarter, up 125% from the same quarter of 2010.
"They knocked it out of the park," Brian Marshall, an analyst with Gleacher & Co., told Computerworld after Apple's earnings call on Tuesday. "They just crushed it."
Marshall, other analysts and Apple executives all pointed to iPhone and iPad sales as the driving forces for the record quarter.
"The quarter was driven by dramatic growth in iPhone and iPad sales," Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's chief financial officer, said during the conference call.
Apple sold 20.3 million iPhones, up 142% over the same period last year and a 9% increase over the first quarter of 2011, which was the previous record. On a revenue basis, the iPhone's contribution was 46.6% of total revenues, more than two-and-a-half times that of the Mac or over twice that of the iPad.
What impressed Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research, wasn't simply the strong iPhone sales, but that Apple was able to maintain its high margin on the smartphone and sell more than 20 million during the quarter even though it didn't release a new model last month, as it has done in three out of the last four years.
"The ASP [average sales price] of the iPhone hasn't moved noticeably at all, which surprised me," Gottheil said. "They keep building and building them, but the ASP doesn't move."
Apple's decision to push back the launch of the next iPhone to this fall -- most experts have pegged September as the most likely month -- didn't hurt sales of the current model, Gottheil also noted.
Meanwhile, Apple sold 9.2 million iPads, nearly triple the number it sold in the same quarter last year and almost double the 4.7 million it sold in the first three months of 2011.
Apple launched the iPad 2 in mid-March, just weeks before the start of the second quarter, and only recently has been able to meet demand, and then only in some markets.

Apple to sell contract-free to sell contract-free

The latest, courtesy of a story from Boy Genius Report today, has Apple selling a contract-free, $350 iPhone 3GS for the prepaid customer segment. The report also said the next iPhone, which may or may not feature a radical design, will be coming out or announced "by the end of summer, late August-ish."
An Apple representative wasn't immediately available to comment on the validity of the report.
Apple has been looking at ways to expand its potential base of customers and cement its leadership role in the smartphone world. The company has already expanded its distribution with the addition of Verizon Wireless as a carrier partner. But Apple wants to go after the burgeoning prepaid market, one of the few areas of customer growth still left in the wireless industry.
The move comes as Google's Android platform steadily overtakes Apple for smartphone supremacy. The free software is already used by a number of handset manufacturers, allowing it to tackle both the low and high ends of the market.

Apple Tablet In 2010

Rumors of Apple’s tablet are going around the Internet again, and this time IDF has predicted that Apple’s tablet will appear in 2010, and not 2009. Considering that we’ve less than a month to go before we see 2010, we can certainly believe that. Apparently the device will sport an 8 to 10-inch touchscreen and will be more like an iPod touch and Mac. Could the Apple tablet give Amazon’s Kindle a serious run for its money?

Apple Ipad

Much regarded as the gadget of the century, Apple IPad is now in stores all across the world. Did it live up to its name or not is yet to be answered.
This gorgeous looking Ipad is more or less looking similar to the Iphone but not in its size, this one is just like a slate on hand. It is heavy with its glass and devoid of ports and buttons. Those unfamiliar with Apple’s mobile styling will wonder where the USB port and other slots are hidden and, obviously, there is no trick. The device has a single iPod-style jack at the bottom (but charges only on 10-watt USB ports so won’t charge from older pre-USB 2.0 computers), volume buttons under a screen position lock on the right side, and a headphone jack/mic on top along with a small outlet for a speaker on the bottom.
The Ipad is clearly something you have to take care of. The huge screen is just asking’ for a cracking and the rear side doesn’t fare well against whatever nitty-gritty crumbs, dust, and what-nots you might have on your table, making Apple’s $39 case (or another case of similar quality) a must. The case, incidentally, also doubles as a stand so you can use the Ipad like a little TV on your airplane tray. With a tap of a button the Ipad also doubles as a digital picture frame.
The WIFI in the Ipad is a mixed bag, sometimes it works fine and most of the times the connection is lost, the apple might be trying to patch this with any firmware update and if it cannot then update this feature in the upcoming models.
Media playback is really good in Ipad. It can play AAC and MP3 files and can also synchronize with Itunes easily.
The Ipad is actually a great tool for the photographer. With the optional SD card or camera connector, viewing photos on this is made a matter of plug and play.
Putting this Ipad for getting work done isn’t that pretty easy, initially it takes a lot of adjustment with the screen type and once you are set in you just hit the 'go'.
The bottom line is that the idea of Ipad is something truly magical but to have it in the reality shelf it needs more research and apple has to ensure it removes the flaws and get this Ipad in to a perfect shape.

IPod touch (32 GB)

Apple's sleek design impresses once more. iPod Touch has always been an outstanding one. With great new techniques and applications, now iPod touch is even better. The all-metal-and-glass design is gorgeous. The scratch resistant card used makes the user feel secure about his ipod.

Apple has found a way to squeeze more life out of a battery charge. With the 1.1.1 iPod touch software my iPod touch played music continuously for just under 17 hours—five hours short of Apple’s claim of 22 hours of continuous audio play. The 32GB storage capacity is fantastic for people who possess a lot of music and who will add a lot of other features to the item, such as; photos, films, applications etc. iPod touch holds up to 25,000 photos you sync via iTunes. Watching videos/films is fantastic, the picture quality is unbelieveable, along with the sound.
Apple's 32 GB iPod Touch has finally given the mobile device market a media player with a great combination of quality, features and capacity. The iTouch is nice. It is a fantastic gizmo.

Apple iPhone 3G 16GB

Apple I Phone 3G is jack-of-all-trades handheld tool. This phone ROCKS its so hard to put down... The Apple iPhone 3G is one of the most mature mobile devices I have seen.

The iPhone 3G continues to lack some basic features that are available on even the simplest cell phone. Multimedia messaging, voice dialing and video recording options which are standard in most cell phones are painfully absent.
Though the iPhone 3G isn’t by any means revolutionary it really does incredible job. I think that Apple is taking over the world with some truly amazing and innovative products. It really is one cool gadget.

Apple Ipod 4th generation


Apple seems to understand what people want and look in for and this understanding has to be appreciated well. Iphone is a trend setter in the touch screen / Smartphone category, toppling many brands in its way.
Released worldwide this July 2010, the 4th generation IPhone is stunning and is elegantly designed making it feel good and loaded with plenty of new skill. This phone comes in two color variants - black & white. The new Iphone 4G is loaded with updated features like video chat, multi-tasking and extremely fast downloading capability than its predecessors.
The phone has a 3.5" 16M-color LED-backlit TFT capacitive touch screen of 640 x 960 px resolution and runs on a 1GHz Apple A4 SoC. Has an inbuilt RAM of 512MB with storage options of either 16 or 32GB. A 5 MP camera with autofocus plus LED flash is truly at its best. The quality of the audio output is excellent comparing the previous phones and is even slimmer (just 9.3mm). For those who wish to take a video call there is a front facing camera.
The Retina display in Iphone 4G is four times the pixel density of a typical LCD Display making the text look like a high quality printed book. Though Apple claims that Iphone 4G is capable of doing multitasking, the multi-tasking is only to a certain degree and not 100%.
Love it or hate it... this Iphone 4G is here to stay.

Neonode N2 smartphone World’s smallest touch screen device debuts at CES

Test versions of the Neonode N2 smartphone (neonode.com) were released to the press at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. The N2’s amazingly small size (1.88 x 3.08 x .6 inches) and customized user interface make it perhaps the most unique and innovative device to be introduced so far this year. The N2 weighs a mere 2.6 ounces and has a 2-inch (176 x 220) touch screen. Below the screen is a joystick, as well as an antenna loop that also functions as a lanyard clip. The device runs on Windows CE 5.0 and uses a unique user interface designed by Neonode; other features include a miniSD slot, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and music and video players. The smartphone Internet connection runs on the slower GPRS standard, but it is a quad-band GSM phone that will be sold unlocked through a U.S. carrier yet to be named.

Unfortunately the IPhone is not the latest technology and nor does it set any great leaps in mobile technology. Many of the features of the IPhone have been available in other cell phones for ages and it really is outdated before it was released but the hype and expected large masses of people made to believe this phone is something special when it is nothing significant at all is really quite ridiculous.
