Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

This is something we thought that we would never see - a Sony Ericsson smartphone running the Windows Mobile operating system. What's more, this first attempt at a Windows smartphone looks good enough to be a class leader.
This is a feature packed device, and it's a little hard to know where to start - so we will begin with the XPERIA X1's obvious physical characteristics first. The XPERIA X1 is dominated by a large 3 inch touchscreen, Sony Ericsson say that is has "wide VGA resolution" which is a little confusing, as it is actually a 480 x 800 pixel panel. 800 pixels is an ideal resolution for web surfing, pitching the XPERIA X1 directly against the Nokia E90.. but the XPERIA has the advantage of a touch sensitive display.
There's a slide-out QWERTY keyboard on the X1, but unlike many rival devices, this is an ergonomic "Arc slider". What this means is that the XPERIA curves when it opens, giving a better typing position than a "flat" slider. On the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. Sony Ericsson do state that the XPERIA is capable of video calling too, although it is difficult to see where the secondary camera is hidden. The X1 can also capture VGA resolution video at up to 30 frames per second.
Inside, this is a quad-band GSM phone with tri-band UMTS (there are two variants), plus GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA and WiFi connectivity. In case you're not familiar with HSUPA, it is basically a variant of HSDPA with much faster upload speeds of up to 5.7 Mbps. And if you're not familiar with this alphabet soup at all.. don't worry: the XPERIA X1 has fast access to the internet, either through your cellular phone provider or a wireless hotspot. The X1 also support stereo Bluetooth.
Also bundled into the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is aGPS (advanced GPS), so the handset can be used with a compatible satellite navigation application. It's not clear if any satnav application will come bundled with the XPERIA, but there are plenty of commercial applications that will work on Windows Mobile.
As we have already mentioned, this is a Windows Mobile device. But Sony Ericsson haven't just gone for the standard (and fairly unexciting) Windows look and feel, as the XPERIA has a customisable "panel" interface designed for fingertip navigation. Presumably this enhancement is designed to make the XPERIA more competitive with the Apple iPhone.
Windows Mobile comes with pretty good media support, and the XPERIA X1 also has an FM radio. Windows Mobile also has pocket versions of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint plus Internet Explorer for web browsing. In addition, it supports push email and has an RSS newsreader.
On paper there is very little missing from the XPERIA X1. If we're being picky, then we could mention that the camera is only 3.2 megapixels and not 5 megapixels, and the handset lacks an FM transmitter. But then those aren't very common in any case. The display is only 65,000 colours rather than the 262,000 colours or even 16 million colours that we tend to see, although we suspect that you would be hard pushed to tell much of a difference.
Another surprising feature is that the XPERIA takes microSD cards, in addition to the maximum 400MB of internal memory. Almost all Sony Ericsson phones use the proprietary Memory Stick format, so the fact that the XPERIA has a microSD slot instead raises an interesting question - who actually built the XPERIA?
The biggest problem is that you won't be able to buy one of these until the second half of 2008. We strongly suspect that the XPERIA won't be available until quite late in the year, and by that time there will be a number of competing products from other manufacturers. But one fact remains is that this is a Sony Ericsson phone, so it is quite likely that the XPERIA X1 will be picked up by several different carriers after launch.

Sony Ericsson X1 test

First impression of the Sony Ericsson X1 phone

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 mobile phone is quite long and narrow, although also somewhat thick, mainly caused by the sideways sliding QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen is of reasonable size, however, somewhat on the narrow side, and below the screen some additional buttons are found to answer or end a call, as well as the panel button, arrow buttons and a confirmation button. The front of the Sony Ericsson X1 phone is made of metal, just like the back cover, which gives the phone a solid appearance. Standard included with the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 are a battery charger, a data cable, a headset, two stylus pens, several manuals per functionality and a software CD.

Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia touchscreen

The clear touchscreen with high resolution (800x480) ensures easy operation. The screen responds fast and you don’t have to press hard on it in order to make it work. The colors are beautiful and watching a video is not a problem at all. Personally, I find the monitor rather narrow, certainly when using it vertically, since in that case the resolution changes from 640x480 to 800x480. It’s also advisable to use the included stylus pens sitting on the left top side, since the icons are a tad too small to operate with your finger. Although in some cases it is possible. There is a small upright edge around the monitor which makes it difficult to click on an icon in the corners using your fingers. Other than that, no comments.

F or several years now, the Windows Mobile operating system has been used on many smartphones. Windows Mobile indeed ensures a fine compatibility and synchronization with the computer, which makes it popular for corporate use, too. In general, this software is a tad more enhanced, which is noticeable on, for example, the agenda function, Windows Media Player and the Internet Explorer. Installing the external software is easy and extensively available on line. Recent improvements carried out in Windows Mobile 6.1 enhance the user’s ease. Mainly by placing short cuts with access to certain functions on the screen, which facilitates opening them, making it easier for the user, since it means scrolling through the menu endlessly is no longer necessary. The changes have been accomplished also by listening to the experiences of the user.

Baffled by the look of Xperia X5? Peeking at Jalou again and again, trying to understand its details?

Well never mind about it!
Yes, I made that statement. Why?

Because these pics. shown above are not from Sony Ericsson at all. They all have been coming up from a huge fan base of Sony Ericsson who keep discussing/sharing photos of these kind of imaginative concept phones in a well known discussion forum.

But what surprises us is the speed at which these kind of snaps gets spread out over the internet creating buzz among every individuals browsing the web out there!

But the real sufferers of these kind of hoax info. may not be the common readers, but rather its the handset manufacturers who will be at a loss.

Why?

Because people might abandon their plans of buying an existing handset from the market, expecting a launch of these kinds of phones, which in reality, never exists!

But then, who should be blamed for it?

Personally, I would back the fans rather than pointing at them. Because I feel that this is one of the best way of expressing your desire towards your gadget/brand creatively, letting the company know what you expect out of them!

But may be some of the bloggers/news media should stop pulling these kind of details out of the forum and throwing at its readers, when it knows its not for real! But then, this was just my opinion.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Could Sony Ericsson finally be about to deliver on the promise of, well, every smartphone it's ever made that wasn't quite good enough? Maybe it was stupid to hope, but we did anyway.
An attractive design with a curved back that's just 8.7mm thick in the middle? Check. Impressive new Exmor camera technology? Check. Good spec list, including HDMI output? Check. Superb video player? Check.
The hardware is extremely impressive, both in terms of looks and performance. Forget the fashionable dual-core phones – when done right, a single-core 1GHz processor can do it all, although busy, dynamic websites will cause the phone to chug a little.
As it is, we're prepared to overlook the Xperia Arc's few minor flaws (small buttons, odd text entry) thanks to its stunning good looks, superb screen and very decent photo performance. You can't help but love it once you've held its magically thin body and gazed adoringly into its dazzling Reality Display.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

PlayStation. Phone. The jury's still out on whether the two will go together quite as well as such classic double acts as Chas and Dave - but, at least in this iteration, it's turned out to be a damper squib than the time we believed Back to the Future would turn out to be real by the time 2011 rolled around. It features a four-inch screen, slide-out gaming controls and the PlayStation Suite.
With the PSOne-era games that are on offer, we were hoping for a little bit more raw power considering the 1GHz processor chugging away under the hood. While Final Fantasy VII might be a bit much to delve into on the bus, we can only imagine games like the original Rayman keeping people going for a few minutes.
Much of what ails the Xperia Play could be fixed with time and care. As it stands, however, we reckon you could do better for your money. The Xperia Play is too pricey for casual gaming, while we'd suggest serious gamers would be better served by picking up a full-on mobile console. Sony fans have the NGP to look forward too, and we'd seriously recommend the 3DS as an alternative.

Sony Ericsson Xperia LED

Sony Ericsson Xperia LED Android Phone is All About Quality

Unsatisfied with the current build quality of Android phones, designer Kieron-Scott decided to create the Sony Ericsson Xperia LED concept. This Android device comes with a unibody high polished black steel body and copper plated buttons with LED indicators.

In order to get evenly illuminated shots, the Xperia LED uses the ring flash technology and a nice touch is the illuminated Sony Ericsson at the back. This seems to be a design prototype, so it’s a work in progress, accepting input from you. There’s the comments section for that, if you have suggestions.

This handset certainly looks like Nexus material and Google would probably embrace it as its own. Notice the edge to edge screen present upfront, but I’m not so sure about that curved back. Perhaps make the curve smaller?

Sony Ericsson XPERIA

Manufacturers and carriers are showing commendable restraint in avoiding totally bastardized, walled-garden versions of Android on their handsets (for the most part), but they're not avoiding it altogether -- take Sony Ericsson here, for instance. The company has announced that it's expanding the reach of its PlayNow app store to cover Android in concert with its launch of the X10, which presumably means that users will be juggling a minimum of two sources for third-party wares on this thing. Long-term, this kind of needless fragmentation seems like one of the greatest threats to Android's ability to become and remain a heavyweight player in the smartphone ring -- but then again, what do we know? It's not like these guys haven't already figured out how to dominate before with UIQ... ah, wait. Anyhoo, yeah, back to the topic at hand: devs are now invited to submit their Android apps for inclusion in the PlayNow store, so hey, you may as well -- the phone's looking to be a hottie, so it can't hurt to have your stuff featured on there, we figure.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 Android based phone

1GHz processor
4″ touchscreen with 800×400 pixels
8MP autofocus camera
Wi-Fi

It will probably cost a fortune.
